About Newquay

 

Situated on Cornwall’s north coast, Newquay has long been a hit for both locals and visitors alike. Widely known for its beaches, where waves from the Atlantic Ocean create strong surf, Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay are just two of the must-see attractions this area has to offer. Fistral Beach is also home to the Boardmasters surfing championships, where the world’s best attend to compete.

The town was originally known as the port of Towan Blistra before the new quay was built in the fifteenth century. Hence the new name was derived. During the copper mining industry days, the town was heavily known for its import of coal and export of mined ore but the main industry of Newquay’s past was pilchard fishing and salting. These days however, the town is known for its beautiful scenery, surrounding countryside and for the bustling town itself.

 

The transport links here are excellent with the train station ideally located in town and Cornwall’s Newquay airport offering both domestic flights and direct flights to a wide-range of European destinations.
