About Redruth

It is believed that Redruth earned its name from the 14th century when the stream running along the edge of Fore Street became discoloured due to iron oxide from nearby tinning processes that it ran red. The Cornish word for ford is rhys and red is ruth, hence the name Redruth was born.

Redruth was once at the centre of the Cornish mining industry, set between the hilltops of Carn Brea, Carnmenellis and Carnmarth. Located on the Great Flat Lode, a rich and accessible body of copper and tin ore, and just three miles from port of Portreath, its location has been integral to its mining heritage.

The town is at the centre of the Mineral Tramways – trails which criss-cross the mining World Heritage Site, and offer breathtaking views of the Cornish north coast taking in sights from Newquay right down to St Ives.

The Victorian architecture is evident for all to see here and AW Surveyors are highly trained and experienced in surveying such properties.
